Teviskes ziburiai (Tėviškės žiburiai)

TĖVIŠKĖS ŽIBURIAI (Lights of the Homeland), Lithuanian-Canadian weekly published at Toronto since1949. Its publication was begun by a group of post-World War II immigrants who established the Lithuanian-Canadian Catholic Culture Society for that purpose. Shortly thereafter the printing of the weekly was taken over by the separately formed Žiburiai (Lights) Press Co. In 1972 both organizations united to form the Lithuanian-Canadian Roman Catholic Cultural Society Žiburiai, the newspaper's publisher. The weekly devotes the largest part of its coverage to topics revolving around Lithuania and Lithuanians abroad, to their religious, cultural, organizational, social, and political activity. Since the weekly has such a broad scope and has managed to attract a great variety of diverse contributors, it is widely read not only in Canada and the United States but also in other countries. Its editor-inchief until 1961 was the historian Adolfas Šapoka. Since then, the weekly has been edited by Rev. Pranas Gaida-Gaidamavičius, assisted by Antanas Rinkūnas and Vytautas K. Tvardauskas. The publishers have also brought out 25 books, in Lithuanian or English.
